{semi} Wordless Wednesday...

Hi! I'm Kristy, from The Pink Owl Blog and I'm hosting Wordless Wednesday for Daphne this week! This is my first time ever hosting on someone else's blog, so I'm hoping I did this all correctly. I'd love for you to visit my blog sometime, if you get a chance! Hope you all have an amazing Wednesday!!

The Pink Owl

One of my favorite things to do when life stresses me out (or just because I love it) is to watch what I call...comfort TV! I love the TV shows of my childhood (and some that were well before my childhood). It reminds me of when the world seemed so much simpler than it is today. Everywhere I look on TV these days, it's sex, drugs, violence and drama (do I sound like a grandma yet?) and it just gets overwhelming and, quite frankly, depressing sometimes! So....I pull out my box sets of old TV shows on DVD, pop them in and forget about how the world seems drenched in Crazy Sauce for a while.

Let's take a step back in time, shall we?

The Cosby Show is my number one most favorite show of all time. Ever! I swear to you, if there was a channel that played the Cosby's 24/7 my world would be made. I would never watch anything else! I have seen every episode a million and one times, but they never get old. Bill Cosby is one of my heroes. He is an amazing man! When I was a little girl, I always wanted to be Vanessa. She was my favorite with her crazy, geometric hairstyles and Benetton sweaters!

Three's Company! Ahhh, John Ritter....he could always make me laugh! I wasn't allowed to watch this show when I was younger, obviously, but since I discovered it as an adult, I'm hooked. I love to watch it in the middle of the night (on TV Land). Janet is my favorite character.

The Addams Family is another one of my favorites. It is such a creepy, funny and...creepy show! I love it!

Who doesn't love Happy Days? This is my second favorite show. Every time I watch it, I wish I'd lived in that era. There was so much respect for adults, authority and each other (at least the show portrays it that way). And, Tom Bosley? Well, I just adored him.

I used to want to be Marsha on The Brady Bunch. That family always had a good time! And my favorite episode will always be when they entered the talent competition and sang 'It's A Sunshine Day'!

I also loved Leave it to Beaver! June was the epitomy of beautiful housewife. And I always thought the dad looked like my mom's old Ken Barbie doll.

These shows just give me a reprieve from the heaviness of the world sometimes. Do you have shows that bring you comfort? What are your favorites?

Let's Eat Y'all!

Happy Friday!  I'm Allie, from Sundresses and Smiles.  Daphne is one of the people that has made blogging so meaningful and fulfilling for me, so when she asked me to guest post I was thrilled.

Today I will be sharing a recipe for Mango-Chicken Kabobs found at allrecipes.com.  My best friend, AMF, and I made these at the lake for Memorial Day weekend and they were a huge hit.

Photobucket

Ingredients (Yields 4 servings)
1/4 cup olive oil
2 teaspoons minced, fresh ginger root (we were lazy and just used ginger spice and it tasted great)
1 teaspoon lemon juice
1 teaspoon orange juice
1 teaspoon brown sugar
1 pinch white sugar
4 skinless, boneless chicken breast halves, cut into bite sized pieces
salt to taste
3 mangoes--peeled, seeded, and diced
skewers

Instructions
  1. In a shallow container, mix the olive oil, ginger root, lemon juice, orange juice, brown sugar, and white sugar.  Place the chicken breasts in the mixture and marinate at least 30 min in the refrigerator.
  2. Preheat the grill for high heat.  Immerse skewers in water (I added this step which is very important, luckily AMF knew to do this, because I would not have.  If you do not wet them, they will set fire on the grill!!)
  3. Season chicken with salt and alternately thread chicken and mango onto skewers.  Discard marinade.
  4. Lightly oil the grill grate.  Place skewers on the grill, and cook 15 minutes, turning to cook on all sides, until juices run clear.
  5. ENJOY!

Finished Product!

These kabobs were delicious and the perfect summer meal.  I also LOVED the marinade on the chicken and would love to use it when cooking chicken in general!

Do you like kabobs?

Semi-Wordless Wednesday with "how i met your father"

Hello, lovely friends! I am Little Miss Can't Be Wrong, the blogger behind "how i met your father."

My blog has been around for about a year now.  I write about my little life in Philadelphia - friends, faith, family, and the men I meet on my quest to find a future (very far in the future!) father to my family.

Like many of you I was drawn to Daphne's blog because she shares so much about the kind of life I want to live. Loving family, strong in faith, happy in her career, excellent taste in shoes and bags.   While she is missed during her summer blogging hiatus I hope this little post of mine will fill the void for you - and I'd love for you to stop by and visit!

Really, though, what struck me about Daph is the love that pours through in her posts.  This woman we tune in to read on a regular basis lives a life of LOVE - and for that I truly admire her (and think you do, too).  If you are a product of '90s television, like me, there are a few iconic shows that probably stick out in your mind. For me... I can't quite remember the '90s without thinking of Full House.

Did your Friday night revolve around watching TGIF and these adorable blonde girl - and their hunky Uncle Jesse? Have mercy.... mine did!

Did you dream about living in their gorgeous San Francisco home - where it never seemed to rain, no one ever had laundry to put away, and when things got tough you could visit with one of your "uncles" (swoon, Uncle Jesse) and get a great big hug and suddenly everything was okay?

There was many a day when that amazing house that seemed to expand as their family grew - attic apartment for Uncle Jesse, Aunt Becky, Nicky and Alex? no problemo, dude - seemed like a much better gig than our little house out in Prepadelphia suburbs.

While Stephanie and Michelle were cute I always envied DJ. DJ Tanner had gorgeous hair, a gorgeous boyfriend, was able to convince her dad for her own room, and a lipstick telephone. Color me jealous!

Remember Steve? A.K.A the voice of Disney's Aladdin? Uncle Jesse will always be number one in my heart but Steve played a close second - no matter how dumb he was.

Anyone else shed a few tears when the series finally ended? I don't think a show has ever united our family quite like Full House did (unless you count Dr.Quinn Medicine Woman, which my dad couldn't stand but also never stayed away for a full episode!).

I can't wait to read your favorite shows - and would love for you to play along with our "Semi-Wordless Wednesday" link up!

With all fun things there are a few rules that we ask you to follow to ensure everyone has a great SWW!

1.  Grab the badge to play along! This way other blog-friends will know where they can go to link-up, too!

2.  Visit the three blog friends who linked up right before you - leave them a little SWW love and if you like what you see give your new blog friends a follow!

This part isn't a rule, but I'd love to have you stop by my corner of blog-world, too! Visit me at "how i met your father".

Let's Eat Y'all!

Hey there ladies!
I'm Rachel from My Happily Ever After
and the fabulous Daphne asked me to come fill in for her today at the Recipe Swap
while she's relaxing with her fam!

I love to cook easy peasy recipes
where you don't have to slave over a hot stove for hours
so I thought I'd share one today!

Firecracker Grilled Salmon
{from AllRecipes.com)

Ingredients
1 salmon filet
1/2 cup peanut oil
4 tblspns soy sauce
4 tblspns balsamic vinegar
4 tblspns green onions, chopped
3 tsps brown sugar
2 cloves pre-minced garlic
1 1/2 tsp ginger
2 tsp red pepper flakes
(use less if you'd like it to be less spicy)
1 tsp sesame oil
1/2 tsp salt

Preparation
1.  Grab a mixing bowl and throw in everything but the salmon.  Wisk it up.
(I told you this was going to be easy...)
2.  Pop the salmon in a dish and pour the mixture over it.
3.  Cover it up and refrigerate for an hour or so to marinate.
4.  Heat up the grill and toss that deliciousness on there for 10 - 20 minutes, depending on how thick your fillet is.

Once the fish is ready, serve it up with some grilled veggies and fruit salad for a good ol' barbecue meal!

Now it's your turn!
Can't wait to see what y'all have been cookin' up!
